How to undo a bulk edit in Shopify
Shopify's bulk editor writes your changes as soon as you save them, and there is no undo button for a saved bulk edit. If an edit went wrong, these are the ways to take it back.
If you exported a CSV before the edit
Import that file again from Products, Import, with the option to overwrite products that have the same handle ticked. It writes back the columns in the file for every product in it, so a product you changed on purpose since the export goes back too. Check the file before you import it, and take a fresh export first, so you can return to where you are now.
If you know exactly what the edit did
Make the opposite edit. It works only for edits that arithmetic can reverse, and it is easy to get wrong: a price raised by 10% and then lowered by 10% ends 1% below where it started (100.00, then 110.00, then 99.00). Rounding, such as prices ending in .99, cannot be reversed, and neither can a "set to" edit that replaced many different values with one.
If you have neither
Shopify offers no way to bring back a value a bulk edit replaced, so the old one has to come from somewhere else: an older export, a supplier's price list, or your orders (each order keeps the price the item sold at).
How Candor Bulk Editor keeps every run undoable
- Before anything is written, it shows every value before and after, for every product and variant.
- After the run it reads each field back from Shopify and keeps a receipt: what changed, what was skipped, and why.
- Undo puts each field back to the value it had before the run. A field somebody changed after the run stays as it is and is listed, so a later fix is not overwritten unless you choose to.
- Receipts and original values are kept 7 days on the Free plan and up to 90 days on a paid plan.
The field by field detail is on what undo covers, and the app is on the Shopify App Store.
